H. Pylori is No Laughing Matter

The pain was so intense that all I could do was wake up and double over.  It had come and gone for a couple of days, but now it was worse.  I didn’t sleep that entire night because my stomach pain made it impossible to.  In the morning, I woke up and made an appointment to see the doctor.

When I arrived, the doctor tapped my back and middle part of my stomach.  It made the pain the worse.  She took some urine sample and saw some blood.  Therefore, she took me to get an X-ray.  I was worried at this point because I figured that she would never figure out what was wrong with me.

After taking the X-ray, she didn’t see anything, so she called another doctor to consult.  They asked if I was a smoker, heavy drinker, ate a bad diet, wasn’t active, etc.  All the answers were no.  If you know me, you know that I have never smoked, rarely drink, are very healthy, and are super active.  They were stumped.

Finally, they wanted me to get take some blood samples, which I did.  I left discouraged.  For weeks, I have barely been able to eat, and I dropped some weight.  I wondered if this was my fate – to constantly be in pain. I was wrong.

I received an email from my doctor indicating that I had H. Pylori and Gastritis.  For years, I’ve had stomach problems, but I never went to the doctor to check it out.  Now I knew that I wasn’t crazy, and it made me feel so much better.

H. Pylori “ lives in the mucous lining of the stomach and may cause inflammation that could lead to an ulcer.” (WebMd).  It increases your chances of stomach cancer and/or ulcers.  The doctor prescribed some antibiotics to get rid of the inflammation.  H. Pylori combined with Gastritis has to be monitored closely.

I still suffer from pain, but it has lessened since I started taking the antibiotics.  Hopefully, I have found the problem early enough that I won’t develop ulcers.  Reading some of the information, I think I have a good chance that I won’t.  If you feel any stomach pains, don’t take risks.  Go to the doctor.

Hagi Has FIV (HIV for Cats)

10 December, 2008 | dcfemella | Comments

I just found out that Hagi has Feline Immunodeficienncy Virus (FIV).  It’s HIV for cats.  He should be ok because he is always going to be indoors and an only cat.  Additionally, we spoil him like crazy, so he should not have the issues that other cats would have.  My poor little kitty.  FIV is in the same retrovirus family as feline leukemia virus (FeLV), but the viruses differ in many ways including their shape. FIV is elongated, while FeLV is more circular.

He is already part of the family, and we adore him like he has always been with us.  I am going to take him to the vet in a month, so they can run more tests.  The vet said that sometimes a FIV vaccine will make the test a little skewy and give a false positive.  She says she thinks that might be a very likely scenario for Haji because he is very healthy.  Also, my little fat ass is a pound heavy.  Every time I head to the kitchen, he follows me so I can give him more food.  He hates dry food, so I am going to return the dry food that I bought because he refuses to eat it.  Also, the vet says that dry food actually makes cats heavy, so Mr. Haji Fat Cat will not be eating that.

The only issue with Haji in our lives is that the kids’ bedtime is all messed up because I have to spend 30 minutes getting them to bed, and then another hour telling them to go back to their room from “checking on Haji.”  After being late for the 100th time this week, I told them that I am going to be super hardcore about bedtime because I’m sick and tired of them being late for school.

Last night, he slept with my daughter and I.  He sometimes will creep up on me and sleep on my chest.  It kinds of freaks me out because I watched too many horror films where cats supposedly steal your breath.  Damn Haji, calm down and sleep next to me.  I think he did that last night to show that he was no longer mad at me for taking him to the vet.

Every time I tried to hold or pet him, he would walk away and look at me like “F* you for taking me to the vet to get shots and stuff.”

The kids would hold or pet him, and he would let them while looking at me with contempt.  I felt so damn guilty.

I’m worried about the FIV, so if anyone has more information for me, I would appreciate it.

December Brings in the Bad News

2 December, 2008 | dcfemella | Comments

December has definitely started off with a bang. I wish that I could say in a good kind of way, but unfortunately, I can’t. First, I found out that people very close to my heart might need major operations for one thing or the other. I’m trying to remain positive, but being a person who usually sees the glass as half empty, it’s been really hard. If one of these people were to take a turn for the worse, I would be devastated. Let’s hope it doesn’t lead to hospital stays and that they fully recover.

Secondly, there is a huge water hole on my ceiling in the kitchen because of the renovations going on in the upstairs condo. The lady who lives there and I have already gotten into a heated spat, so I really hate that I have to deal with her again. I hope that the Contractor remains as nice and willing to help to fix the damage as he has been, or else the bitch in me is coming out. Tomorrow, I will have to call my condo association. Grr…..

The insomnia is still there. I have huge black circles under my eyes that keep getting progressively worse. It’s gotten to the point where the black circles are now bulging out. I need to call my doctor so she can up my sleeping pill dose to the point that it can knock down a horse.

The only good news is the coming of Christmas and the wonderful movies, songs, and events that occur in this wondrous time. I decorated my tree, and I am now buying everyone’s gifts. Here are some pics:

Sleeping Pills That Worked Too Good

1 November, 2008 | dcfemella | Comments

The kids’ sport season is almost over, and in a way, I’m happy.  It has been constant running around here or there, and I can finally relax, even if it’s only for two months.  I’m sitting here watching “The Curse of the Living Corpse,” and I don’t want to do anything but do nothing at home.  I’ve been suffering from horrible insomnia.  Yesterday I woke up at 4:30 in the morning, and I still wasn’t able to fall asleep at 4:00 a.m. today.  Grover had to give me sleeping pills, so I could at least sleep.  I didn’t wake up til 2:15 p.m., and that was forcing myself to wake up.  I’m exhausted so no going anywhere.

Halloween night was fun.  The kids got tons of candy in my aunt’s neighborhood.  It’s like they are still stuck in the 80’s, so the majority of the people still give out candy, and there are tons of kids.  They went home with their father, and I went to Grover’s.  We played Scrabble cause he says he is the Scrabble King.  Last weekend, he beat me.  I beat him during the week, and I beat him again.  He felt pretty silly.  I think it was that he challenged my word “hived,” and was wrong.  After that, we were hungry so we headed to Silver Diner.

Everyone and their mom was there with their costumes on.  The girls in front of us and us were laughing at this guy macking on this girl.  The girls and I were perturbed because the girl was allowing the guy to feel her leg as though he had known her forever.

One of the girls said what I was thinking, “If a guy ever felt me up like that, I would break his arm.”

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Halloween, and that they are still eating candy. =)

Fan use linked to lower risk of sudden baby death

6 October, 2008 | dcfemella | Comments

Using a fan to circulate air seemed to lower the risk of sudden infant death syndrome in a study of nearly 500 babies, researchers reported Monday. I know it is good white noise, but I am glad it might also help with SIDs.
