A Letter to My 16-Year Old Nephew12.17.08

Today is my nephew’s 16th birthday. I can’t believe that he is already a teenager.

Karmyn,

I love you so much. I remember when you came into my life when I was 14. Kristine and I would always take care of you with no questions asked. It’s daunting that an 11-year old and 14-year old practically raised you. But, I think that is one of the reasons you are so cool is because we were good influences on you. You listen to all types of music, are open-minded, sweet, and loving.  It’s definitely something that Kristine and I are both proud of.

You were the most well-behaved baby. I remember that one time I was taking care of you one Friday night. We both fell asleep, but you got up. When everyone came home, while you were quietly playing, I was passed out. If it were another toddler, the house would have been destroyed!  Even til this day, you are a person who i don’t have to worry about. I love your innocence. It’s something that many 16-year old boys don’t have, but you have in abundance.

I was tearing up at your recital. I am glad that you are finally doing what you are passionate about. It irked me that your mother never put you in dance and music classes when you were younger. It’s something that I always told her you were amazing at, and you proved me right.

I love you, Kam Kam. Your aunt will always be there for you. Don’t ever hesitate to pick up the phone and call me. You were practically my first born, and so I love you just as much as I love Cebastian and Isabelle.

Here is you are playing “Nocturne:”

Love,

Your aunt

Goodbye Twenties!10.27.08

I have hit the 30-year old mark.  It feels surreal because I don’t feel much different, other than I don’t have the patience to deal with drama.  On Saturday, I went out with the love of my life.  He took me to this fancy restaurant and then a lounge.  It was an amazing night.  The next day, we played Scrabble.  He kicked my butt, and I wasn’t very happy.  I’m not the greatest loser.  I am going to have start practicing with my sister again, so next time, I play with him, it’s on.

We really love each other, and I can’t believe that he is in my life.  Every day I feel like I’m in a dream.

On Sunday, my family came over to my parents’ house to celebrate the big 3-0.  Isabelle and my mom made this amazing display with all my pictures from when I was in my mom’s stomach (I mean it) til now.  It was a crazy thing to see how I have changed throughout the years, and all the different trends I have gone through.

Every minute needs to be enjoyed.  One can’t worry about little things because life will pass you by.

Pumpkin Patch Extravaganza10.12.08

Kettle korn, peach butter, pumpkins, and gourds are the items that the children and I brought back from the pumpkin patch. I wanted apple butter, but it seemed they were out.

For the first time ever, I saw a pig race. It was very cute to see all the pigs running to the finish line. I guess they coerce them by placing their food in their pens while they put them in a holding cage. Afterwards, we headed to the petting zoo to feed the goats, sheep, cows, etc. Isabelle preferred this area. I swear that girl is going to be a Veterinarian.

Everything was wonderful. From the potato sack slide to the jousting area, and from the barn swings to the zip lines. The only disappointment was the maze. This year the corn didn’t grow so high, so it wasn’t like other years where you felt you were in an actual maze. The kids didn’t seem to mind. It was more the adults who wished the tall corn stalks were around.

We went on the hayride, and got some pumpkins for the house. At the house, Isabelle and my cousin Mariah decorated the pumpkins. They look very decorative, and I now feel like the house has the Fall decorations that it needed. I was glad that the entire family was there, especially Mariah and her brother Steven.

My parents and I were just talking about it. Their parents are super strict and are constantly spanking the kids. It started when their father’s sister passed away, and her three children went to live with them. Since then, those kids have no liberties. Any chance that I have to invite them somewhere, I do because I want them to have a happy childhood, or at least a little bit. I sometimes want to smack my aunt on the head and say, “WAKE UP!”

Today we went bowling and then they came over to hang out. I am now typing this while watching “Goosebumps” with the kids.
