Happy Birthday, baby! I can’t believe that you are now eight years old. I remember when I found out I was pregnant with you. It was a shocker. I knew that I was going to have you, even though I was 21. When I started taking care of your cousin, when I was 14, I knew that one day I would be a mother. Even though everyone told me not to have you, I didn’t listen because I knew in my heart that this was meant to be.
You changed my life. If I didn’t have you, I don’t know where I would be right now. You made me shape up and try to be the best for you (and eventually your sister). People would judge me because I was so young having you, but I didn’t care because they didn’t understand how you were really saving me from myself. I am successful cause of you two, and I don’t know where I would have been if I didn’t have you.
Kid, you were a hardcore baby. I know you laugh now because we joke about it, but you were no joke. You were colicky, were up all night, and didn’t let me put you down. I didn’t care (well…sleeping I did) because I would stare at your for hours. You know what? Even now, when your sister and you are sleeping with me, I wake up and just stare at you guys. I even kiss your cheeks and tell you how much I love you.
I can never be lonely with your sister and you with me. You two are my best friends, and you make me continue to strive to achieve my dreams, so you can have everything that you want. I love how you have my quirky sense of humor, my way of talking, my nose, and lips. People say you look like your father, but I see me in you.
You are such a gentleman! I sometimes feel bad cause I can tell that you feel like you have to be responsible for your sister and me. You are so young, but you want to always protect us. When we scream cause we see a bug, you run to save us. If I am carrying bags, you try to take all of them in for me. You hold the door for us, and you always want to make sure that we are ok. I can tell that you are going to be a wonderful man, and I am happy that you will be.
