How Much Should the Tooth Fairy Give a Child?

My son lost his 8th tooth, and my daughter is going to soon lose her 3rd. I decided during the summer that I was spoiling the kids. I was going overboard on what I was giving and doing for them because I was trying to give them everything that I didn’t get. When I was losing my teeth, I was getting 25 cents. The first tooth the kids lost, I gave them $10, and then I was giving them $5 for each tooth.
I usually have them put it in their piggy bank to save the money. After they have saved a certain amount, I have them take some out and save the rest. I am trying to teach them how to manage their money, so they are not one of the college kids you hear about during studies on how America is surrounded by debt.
However, I think that is way too much. Is $2 enough? Or is it still too much?
How much do you give your kids when they lose a tooth?

I give mine a whole dollar!! Somehow they think it's better when I give them a dollar bill instead of four quarters.
1 or 2 dollars is fine, I think.
I wish I could do that, but my son already knows way too much about money for that trick.
Yes, I think it is as well. =D
We give $5, but I know several family who give $1 per tooth and the kids are very happy!
I decided on $2. When he saw the money, he said, “Awwww…I wanted $20.” I said, “Babe, the tooth fairy doesn't give out that kind of money unless it's a ton of teeth.” =D
we've settled on a gold dollar coin per tooth.
Where do you get gold dollar coins?
i'm sure you can get them at the bank as well but we picked up a few from the stamp vending machine at the post office. the machine gives change in dollar coins.
Thanks so much! I love the gold dollar coin idea!
I think part of the reason the “tooth fairy” gives kiddos money is so they can enjoy it But I like you, don't think going overboard is healthy. I would have to say anything over 5 dollars is over doing it. I will probably give Vaness 3 to 5 dollars with the time comes. She will have a field day at the dollar store lol. But that gold piece is a brilliant idea!
