“Grueling, exhausting but worth it.”
How I did it: I trained since March (wish i could have trained more but the damn rain in this area prevented that), and I knew that I was doing this for my aunt who passed away due to complications from diabetes.
She was one of my favorite aunts, so I knew that I had to do this. Her death was one of the most painful things to have happened to me. It was unexpected and shocking for the entire family, and it took a toll on my grandmother.
There were times during the ride that I wanted to give up. The whole thing was hills, and the pedals I had were awful. However, I thought about her, so I kept going because I knew she would be proud of me.
Lessons & tips:
- Train hard!
- Have the right bike pedals and shoes
- Be well hydrated by drinking water the day before the ride
- Don’t drink alcohol
- Get plenty of rest
- Constantly eat and drink during the ride
- Have a wonderful bike crew
- Mentally prepare
- Realize it’s for a good cause
- Don’t be afraid to stop if you are in pain
Resources:
My bike crew helped TONS! There were times that I was ready to call a cab, but with their motivation, I decided not to.
It took me 1 day.
It made me Insane! ![]()

Rock on, lady friend. Color me impressed!
It was great after the fact. Thanks again for your wonderful blog of your favorite blogs and having me as one of them. =D
My sister completed a century ride for MS last year. I was so proud of her! I am not sure I could ever do such a thing.
Congrats to your sister! If you trained properly, I bet you could do it. =)
I am suppose to do a ten-mile run in October, and I am worried cause I'm a
horrible runner. But we'll see. haha

A little lat but congrats! Also I like the riding gear. As one who lives for a diabetes cure for all this way a welcomed find. With the levels recently lowered many more are now borderline diabetic http://ezinearticles.com/?Borderline-Diabetes?-.... This is also the 5th leading fatal disease even ahead of breast cancer. Thanks again
Thank you! It was a hard century, but I'm glad that I did it.
I am quite interesting in this topic hope you will elaborate more on it in future posts.
I could never do this. I can hardly bike 10 miles!
